Part of the University of Sheffield's Department of Information Studies in the UK, this island mainly focuses on information literacy and inquiry-based learning.

Here is the home screen, this is where you can teleport to the Journal room.

This a Journal Room.  It has many articles posted in it and you can also post articles.  Looks as though it has not been updated since 2016.

There was a nice PowerPoint about  using virtual worlds in education.

It seems like this island is not finish and/or up to date.  It does include some nice information about SL.  This would a nice intro to SL site.  I am not how good it would be in a PD.

Second Life

I found a theme-specified island called Inspiration Island which I would integrate into your traditional professional development session or possibly be a PD in itself.  This was by far one of the toughest assignment I have ever completed.  I am not sure how I feel about SL yet.

This is created by the College of Education and Human Services at Montclair State University.  They collaborate with field-based professionals-based on parity, trust and mutual interests-to support the continued learning of experienced professionals and foster the simultaneous renewal of the preparation of professionals and of the professions and communities in which they serve.

First thing you are able to ride and bike and get around easily.

You can discover your strengths.

Find your fortune.

You can also play music.

It would be nice to use these as little breaks during a PD.  It was fun to move around this Island and items seemed up to date.

A Little About Me

Hi! My name is Ashley Pietrangelo. I grew up in Mingo Junction, Ohio and currently live in Steubenville with my fiance, his 13 year old daughter, and 3 dogs.  2 American Bulldogs and 1 Chihuahua, he runs the house!  I completed my undergrad at Bethany and will hopefully graduate from WL in December with my Masters! I spent my first year out of my undergrad at Bethany as a Graduate Intern.  I then applied for a job in Hancock County teaching self contained special education at Weirton Heights.  I spent 5 years there.  When our new school was built in Weirton, I moved to 1st grade and I have been in this position for 3 years now.  I enjoy my kiddos but working in this school of 900 students can be a bit overwhelming. (the adults) I am also a middle school girls basketball coach, I took this past season off to finish my masters and boy I have missed it!

Professional Development Experience
What Great Educators Do Differently
TEACCH Training
West Virginia Autism Academy Cohort 1
Instructional Practices Inventory
Special Education Technology Integration Specialist
Institute for Educational Development I pad Training
CEC Conference in Seattle, Washington
Learning & the Brain Conference in San Francisco, California
NECC in San Antonio, Texas
National Dyslexia Conference in Cleveland, Ohio

My favorite professional development was attending "What Great Educators Do Differently'. It was held at my school and there were many teachers from all over the United States that attended.  The flexible seating was the best because we just received a grant for seating.

My least favorite professional development was the I-pad training I went to.  It was very basis and I knew most of the things they taught us.

3 of my favorite Educational Games:
        Reflex Math
        Sparkle
I have different types of beach balls that we use in my classroom.  Some for addition and subtraction facts and a few with sight words and then we also have a clock one.  I put music on and the kids pass them until the music stops, when it does whoever is holding the ball will have to tell me what their right thumb is on.  They love it! Here is a video of my class playing it this year.  I am sorry it is sideways, I recorded it with Class Dojo and I can't figure out how to get it to turn.

Random facts about me
To release stress I like to ride in my side by side RZR with my fiance and friends.

My favorite ice cream is Cookie Dough, I love ice cream!

I love Ohio State and the Steelers, I know an odd combination.

This is one of my favorite quotes: 'Life in a special education classroom is unique.  It is life stripped to the bare level of existence.  Nothing about physical appearance matters.  Children particularly those with disabilities, do not process the physical labels we proudly or or apologetically wear, only the unspoken motives and intentions of adults.'
